Every October, as Columbus Day rolls around, most people think about voyages and discovery. But what if we applied that same spirit of exploration to our health? The explorers of the past sailed into uncharted territory looking for a better world—maybe it’s time we did the same in our own kitchens, habits, and wellness routines.


While it’s safe to say that no one misses 15th-century sailing conditions (or diets), those early explorers left behind lessons we can still use today. They lived off what they could grow, catch, or preserve. There were no drive-thrus or delivery apps—just resourcefulness, balance, and an intimate connection to nature. Somewhere between then and now, we lost that simplicity.
